The Ukrainian army has brought about a complete strategic COLLAPSE by starving Russian forces and cutting off their ammunition supplies at the Kinburn Spit, the gateway to the Black Sea. As the Kremlin’s elite units which have occupied the region for three years abandon their positions and flee, Crimea’s western defensive shield is now completely DESTROYED. This withdrawal is not a mere retreat; it marks the beginning of the total collapse of the southern front.
Closing the Deadly Trap in the Once-Invincible Trenches
In recent weeks, the Ukrainian army has been systematically clearing the critical corridor stretching from the southern front lines all the way to Crimea. The focal point of these protracted operations is the Kinburn Spit, considered the key to the Black Sea and an extremely strategic point for the port of Mykolaiv. For the past three years, the Kremlin had entrusted its occupation activities in this sandy region to the 337th Regiment, composed of elite airborne units. However, at this stage, the balance on the ground has completely shifted, and Russian troops have begun a rapid withdrawal from this strategic area. With the front lines completely evacuated, the coastal strip has now turned into a desolate, gray wasteland.
Behind this crushing retreat lies a desperate battle the Kremlin waged and lost against the terrain. The high groundwater level in the region causes every trench dug to fill with water instantly. This geographical disadvantage left Russian soldiers completely exposed as targets for Ukrainian artillery and drones in the sky. To make matters worse, a major command crisis erupted within the unit, leading to violent clashes with soldiers from the Don Cossack Brigade, whom they had taken over the area from. Even the elite reinforcement group composed of special forces sent by the military high command could not withstand the harsh reality of the sandy terrain and the severed supply lines. A spiral of indiscipline and mutiny dragged the unit into a state of CHAOS and MUTINY.

A Perfect Logistical Stranglehold
Due to its geographical structure, Kinburn Spit is a region entirely dependent on a constant supply of external reinforcements. The Ukrainian Armed Forces turned this vulnerability into a weapon and systematically cut off all supply routes to the area. Ammo stopped reaching Russian soldiers in the trenches, fuel depots needed to move armored vehicles ran completely dry, and eventually even basic food deliveries ground to a halt. The “rear units” left behind in the positions, exhausted and depleted, were forced to abandon their positions without a fight due to starvation and lack of ammunition.
In this relentless logistical STRANGULATION operation, Ukraine’s network of unmanned aerial vehicles functioned like clockwork. The moment reconnaissance drones in the sky identified logistical targets, they transmitted the coordinates to strike elements within seconds. Faced with this new-generation system known in military terminology as the “lethal sensor-to-striker loop” Russia’s cumbersome logistics were completely helpless. Kamikaze drones relentlessly targeted all Russian supply lines on the southern front day and night, and air defense systems proved inadequate to stop these small devices.

In the background, a much deeper network was systematically WIPED OUT. Ukrainian drones struck the diesel locomotive of a freight train that had departed from Moscow and was moving along the Dzhankoi-Kerch line with a direct hit. The paralysis of the railway network at the Dzhankoi station the beating heart of Russia’s military operations in the south dealt a DEVASTATING blow to its capacity to transport ammunition to the front lines. Meanwhile, on the roads, Ukraine’s 422nd Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion turned KamAZ-type logistics vehicles carrying ammunition to the front into piles of metal debris. Instead of addressing this situation, the Russian command decided to suddenly redeploy some fit soldiers toward Zaporizhia, causing the defensive resistance of those left behind to collapse from within and bringing the front line to a complete HALT.
Trapped in the Trap Set for Crimea
This massive retreat signifies a loss of prestige and morale in the region that will be difficult to repair. While the soldiers’ abandonment of their positions has shaken the army’s overall discipline, its strategic surveillance capability over the Black Sea is also being largely lost. Russia had been using the Kinburn Spit as a massive electronic warfare umbrella over the Ochakiv and Mykolaiv regions; all signal jamming and precision GPS spoofing operations were managed from this sandy area. Now, the plug has been pulled on this electronic shield, and the westernmost tip of the defensive shield protecting Crimea has been breached.
With the Kinburn Spit returning to the gray zone, the Russian artillery threat to the port of Mykolaiv is largely eliminated. The likelihood of this port which could handle nearly one-third of Ukraine’s total agricultural exports reopening safely for trade has increased. However, the Ukrainian military’s ultimate goal is not merely to liberate a single port, but to completely TRAPPED (ENCIRCLE) Russian defense lines. Russian defense lines in the Kherson region are now becoming increasingly isolated. The possibility of flanking Russian defenses through coastal operations has become the most realistic scenario on the table.

An Empire Condemned to Starvation
If drone operations continue uninterrupted at their current intensity, Crimea will become a complete military dead end. As Russia’s supply routes narrow, delivering resources to the region will become impossible, and Russian soldiers will be forced to fight with only the limited ammunition they have on hand, without logistical support from the rear. As the will to fight among units deprived of support begins to erode within weeks, resistance is doomed to collapse entirely from within. By adopting the tactic of starving the enemy rather than launching a direct, bloody ground assault, the Ukrainian army is deeply testing the Russian army’s endurance.
The example of Kinburn Spit has clearly demonstrated that multi-layered defense lines and existing air defense systems are useless without logistics. Even the most modern air defense systems turn into piles of metal when their generators run out of fuel. As soldiers’ morale declines, an increase in desertions and internal mutinies is inevitable. The targeting of railways leading to Crimea, the destruction of logistics convoys, and the use of modern technology to render enemy logistics inoperable will restrict the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s operational range to within the ports. Russia will find itself unable to defend this vast and challenging front with its dwindling resources and will await its ultimate collapse.
