Cuba’s 60-year illusion of invincibility has completely COLLAPSED. The energy crisis, which has condemned 10 million people to utter darkness and starvation, has driven the island into the greatest civil uprising in modern history. As the regime flounders in PANIC, Russia’s hollow support has left a wreckage in the Caribbean and is now GONE.
Rage Rising from the Darkness
Cuba has been gasping for breath in the grip of absolute darkness and starvation for months. The entire national power grid has collapsed, and not a single drop of imported oil has reached the island in four months. The highways are deserted; gasoline is completely GONE. Yet from this crushing darkness, massive civil CHAOS and rebellion are rising.

Millions have taken to the streets, defying regime repression; looting is rampant, and government buildings are being seized. Communist Party offices are being set ablaze and security barriers are being smashed. Millions of people are shouting in the streets, “Down with communism, long live freedom!” Symbols the regime has deemed untouchable for sixty years are being DESTROYED by the people’s own hands.
Special forces in black berets have descended on the streets of Havana, and the internet has been completely SHUT DOWN. The roar of low-flying military helicopters lays bare the regime’s PANIC in all its nakedness. But this time, the machinery of repression isn’t working; the wall of fear has been completely shattered. The “Cacerolazo” (pot-banging protest) Latin America’s well-known ritual of anger has spread from Havana’s back alleys across the entire island. The civil rights organization Cubalex has documented hundreds of organized uprisings across the island.

How Did the Strategic Strangulation Happen?
So, how was this massive collapse triggered? Cuba’s electricity production is 90% dependent on imported diesel and fuel oil. That amounts to a full 100,000 barrels of oil per day. For years, this system was artificially propped up by a flow of discounted oil from Venezuela.
However, in January 2026, the U.S. administration pulled the trigger, and this logistical lifeline was SEVERED. With Trump’s move against Venezuela, that oil flow was cut off like a knife. Immediately afterward, Trump erected a global barrier with a direct executive order, declaring, “Anyone selling oil to Cuba will face U.S. tariffs,” and the island fell under a full scale STRANGULATION. Mexico backed down immediately; not a single major oil tanker has docked in Cuba since December 2025.

The final and fatal blow came when the U.S. officially banned Cuba from purchasing Russian oil. With this decision, made while at least two tankers were en route to deliver fuel to the island, the last lifeline was WIPED OUT. The “Zero Hour” warning from the analysis platform 19FortyFive came true, and with power plants running out of fuel, the country’s power grid completely shut down.
The Collapse of Tourism and the Price of Hypocrisy
When the power grid collapsed, it triggered a deadly ripple effect across every vital aspect of the island’s life. With water pumps failing, access to clean water was reduced to just a few hours a day. Tourism the island’s sole real source of foreign currency was completely wiped out. The number of visitors, which stood at 4.8 million in 2018, plummeted to just 1.2 million during the January-November period of 2025. Since there wasn’t even jet fuel to put in the planes, major companies like Air Canada and Air France suspended flights; the island’s logistical link to the outside world was completely HALTED.
Yet amidst this economic wreckage, the regime’s ideological hypocrisy was on full display in its most repulsive form. In the heart of Havana, the lights remained on in five-star luxury hotels hosting Western left-wing activists like Code Pink and Hasan Piker. While the elite lived in luxury, the people were left TRAPPED in the dark. The massive electricity consumption of a concert organized by the Irish band Kneecap under the guise of “humanitarian aid” caused the emergency power system at a nearby hospital to collapse.

Blinding the Bear and the Collapse of BRICS
In the midst of this massive chaos, what is Russia supposedly Cuba’s biggest ally doing? Instead of saving its last stronghold in the Caribbean, it is evacuating its own citizens via one way flights due to the jet fuel crisis; just like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Russian propagandists are openly abandoning their own allies on state television, declaring, “We owe Cuba nothing.”
Despite Putin’s power displays before the cameras, the Russian-flagged Anatoly Kolodkin and the Hong Kong-flagged Sea Horse tankers bound for the island could not break through the U.S. blockade; the Sea Horse was forced to divert its course to Trinidad and Tobago. The quagmire in Ukraine has drained Russia’s entire military, economic, and logistical capacity. The Kremlin is completely devoid of the capacity to keep its allies in Latin America afloat.
China is filling this geopolitical vacuum left by Russia. Beijing signed an agreement to build 92 solar power plants by 2024, and the first plant quietly began operations in early 2025. However, the most DEVASTATING aspect of this situation for Putin is the hollowing out of the BRICS project, which he has been touting as a weapon against the West for years. Cuba, which became a full member of BRICS as recently as January 2025, was left in the dark in the face of a single administrative order from the U.S. The claim that BRICS is a global alternative has collapsed at its core.

Demographic Suicide and Broken Chains
At the root of Cuba’s current collapse lies a parasitic economic structure that has always been dependent on an external sponsor (first the Soviets, then Venezuela). When the sponsor vanished, so did the illusion. Cuba’s economy shrank by 11% between 2020 and 2024; electricity production plummeted from 20.7 terawatt-hours to 15.3 terawatt-hours. The population is proving its lack of faith in the regime by voting with its feet: the population, which stood at 11.1 million in 2021, dropped to 9.7 million in 2024. This 12% exodus is nothing short of demographic suicide.
The elites are attempting to lock the system down from within by devising a sinister succession plan to install El Cangrejo, the Castro dynasty’s security chief, as a last resort. They are begging Washington for a commercial lifeline. However, the U.S. Helms-Burton Act is clear: No rescue operation will be permitted until political prisoners are released and the Castro dictatorship is completely WIPED OUT.
This island, plunged into darkness, is now the stage for the victory fire of a free people rising from the ruins of communism. The revolution’s legend is over; those collectivist chains in the Caribbean are being broken forever. And this collapse is the starkest proof of how Vladimir Putin was wiped off the global stage, crushed under the war economy he himself created.
